Warranty management IT Assets
With warranty for repaired products, your IT assets be in safe hands
Warranty management for IT assets is the process of tracking and managing the warranties for various equipment and devices used in an organization’s IT infrastructure.
This can include hardware such as computers, servers, and networking equipment, as well as software licenses and other types of IT assets.
The goal of warranty management is to ensure that any IT assets that are under warranty are properly maintained and repaired or replaced in a timely manner when necessary.
This can help to minimize downtime and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of an organization’s IT systems.
Warranty management typically involves tracking the warranty status of each IT asset, including the start and end dates of the warranty period, as well as any maintenance or repair requirements. It may also involve coordinating with vendors or manufacturers to obtain warranty-related support and services, and maintaining records of all warranty-related activities. Some organizations may use specialized software or other tools to help automate and manage their warranty management processes.
A warranty for any IT asset ensures that faulty parts or devices are replaced within the warranty period defined by the seller. It is important to study the warranty clauses carefully before purchasing assets. Each seller has their own warranty agreements, and you must choose the one that serves your interest the best.
In case of refurbished assets, there are two major types of warranties.
Test Warranty
In this scenario, a buyer can visit the premises of the seller and test the assets they are planning to buy. After the buyer is satisfied, makes the purchase, and exits the premises, the warranty ends. There is no liability on the seller for repair or replacement for defects found after the buyer leaves the seller’s warehouse.
Limited Period Warranty
Typically, this is a 30-day warranty. However, there are two variations of this warranty based on delivery time.
• Some sellers start the warranty period clock from the time the assets leave their premises. If delivery takes a week, the buyers are left with only 3 weeks of warranty time. It is important for buyers to read the fine print carefully and understand when the warranty period starts after purchase to make sure they do not get a raw deal.
• Ethical sellers such as Recycler Asia start the warranty period only after the purchased goods reach the buyer’s premises. For example, if the assets are being delivered across countries and take 20 days to reach the buyer’s location, the warranty starts on the twenty first day. This way buyers are protected and get the full 30-day warranty period without any exclusions.
In general, it is advisable to read the terms and conditions of purchase and warranty clauses carefully before buying refurbished IT assets.
